For the many of us who are directionally challenged, the GPS can quickly become our best friend. However, to get the most use out of this device, a driver needs to become a little more familiar with it. Here are some tips on how to take advantage of all of the applications of a Global Positioning System.
First, read the instruction manual. If you are a technology guy or girl, this goes without saying. After all, we want to know what this thing can do! But think twice if you think you are too busy to read up on how to program the GPS and personlize it for yourself. Reading the instruction manual will show you how to move the available information to the places on the screen you would like, such as current speed, speed limit, and next turn or exit.
Second, take it on a test drive. This is not to see if you want to keep it, but to gain familiarity on how it times its verbal instructions. Drivers who are not familiar with the GPS can accidently turn a street too early or a street too late because they are not sure which street the GPS is talking about when it tells them to turn. You can avoid this by becoming familiar with how and when the GPS gives directions.
Personalize it. To get the best use out of a GPS, you don’t want to just stick it in your car and use it for a road trip. Be sure to take the time to add favorite destinations, such as home and work. You can even decide how you want the GPS to decide on a route—by mileage, time, or most scenic route. The GPS can be your best friend. These tips can help you always appreciate how it works, and can eliminate any frustration you might have, especially when you are on the road.
